Hepatitis C virus (HCV for short) can cause severe liver damage, liver cancer, and even death if left untreated.

An estimated one-third of HIV-positive people are “coinfected” with hepatitis C; in fact, HCV-related liver disease is now a major cause of death for people with HIV.
